I was pregnant during COVID, and I had the HARDEST TIME finding maternity clothes, especially since most stores were closed during the pandemic. Additionally, I would order stuff online that would take months to come in.
Ultimately, my biggest takeaway was that a StitchFix Maternity box was the winner for best maternity clothes that were stylish and affordable. I also really enjoyed Kid To Kid in Brentwood, TN because they had a great variety of gently used maternity clothes, and they were really affordable.

Jeans
I found that Gap, Target, and Nordstrom had the best maternity jeans and shorts. These “insert panel” styles are the BEST! They give you plenty of room for all three trimesters- it truly is magic!
The “over the bump” panel tends to slide down, and I personally am always pulling those pants up. These might work for other ladies though.
I feel like at least one pair of jeans is essential!
Work Clothes
Gap had the best work tops that were reasonably priced, for my business casual office. I really enjoyed Gap’s maternity blue jeans and white jeans. Stichfix Maternity also had some great options! These two were my favorite brands by far.
Cute Clothes
Best place for cute clothes: Pink Blush Maternity, Gap, Sitchfix and Rent the Runway. As a taller person (5’7.5) I found it challenging to find pieces of clothes that were long enough to cover my growing bump. Stitchfix had the best options that were long enough, and high quality. I wish I would have ordered a box earlier! And Rent the Runway was perfect for my baby shower dress.
Also, I was disappointed in Target and Old Navy’s selections. Target has very few items for each season, but what they do have worked. Their “maternity” section is deceiving, as they really only have like two racks of maternity clothes and one of them is just basics (jeans and solid tees.) And Old Navy’s items were very basic, which was great for tanks and tees, but they were lacking the style that Gap offered. Old Navy was also online only, and I found myself returning several things that didn’t look good on me in person.
Work Out Clothes
My OB recommended going to Amazon for work out clothes!
This tank is great! Only $16 from Amazon and it’s super long. I have it in several colors and wear it every time I work out.
Unlike the Amazon find above, these are a splurge! These have been great for barre, but they do tend to slip down a little if you’re walking/jogging alot.
These are literally as soft as butter and have been great for lounging around the house too. Also, with the black color, I can throw on a maternity t shirt and a duster sweater and call it an outfit!
I also found a pair of black cotton maternity shorts from Old Navy that were amazing for third trimester.
I also heard that Blanqi has great workout clothes and undergarments.
Undergarments
Run, don’t walk, to Motherhood Maternity to purchase these soft bras! For me, my bras stopped fitting properly pretty soon after that positive test. I’m usually a 32D, and went with a size Medium. I ended up purchasing 5 of these, and they are the only bras I wore the entire pregnancy- and I’m excited to be able to continue wearing them while nursing. Definitely worth the small investment, and Motherhood almost always has a coupon code. They feel like a comfy padded sports bra, but with the V-neck, they fit under 90% of my clothes. (So thankful to my neighbor Lisa for recommending these!)
These were nice to have during the third trimester, but I was able to wear my regular underwear for the majority of the pregnancy.
