Anyone else have a hard time deciding what to get for a baby shower gift? Especially if you don’t know the gender!?
A sweet baby layette
The tiniest babies look so sweet in traditional layettes! These are some of my favorite brands: Paty Children’s Apparel, JJ Gowns, Feltman Brothers, Kissy Kissy and Magnolia Baby Layette. Other than Layettes for a newborn or size 0-3 months, some moms don’t really want a lot of baby clothes and would prefer gear instead. (The clothes are the fun part for the mom-to-be to shop for!) These little layettes can be from $30-50 range, depending on how intricate or if you get things monogrammed or not.
Sentimental and Heirloom Gifts
Pewter baby gifts just make my heart sing! There is nothing sweeter than an engraved brush and comb, a rattle, small keepsake box, photo frame or engraved baby cup. These gifts last a lifetime and are a classic and welcomed gift. People don’t always think about this, but moms appreciate the thoughtfulness!
Big Ticket Items
Maybe you’re about to be a new grandparent or you’ve got a group of gal pals who want to go in on one of the bigger ticketed items. Most pregnant women will still put these items on their registries- hoping that they won’t have to pitch in the cash to get these larger items. Some of these include a carseat, stroller, or pack in play. Pro tip- ask her to register at pottery barn or crate and barrel so you can see what nursery furniture she has registered for. Or she can return smaller items or use gift cards to get furniture.
All things bath!
It’s fun to do a SkipHop Moby bath essentials gift! From the cute little whale tub to the kneeling pad- we have loved our bath items! You could also throw in some toys, some baby shampoo, and/or baby wash cloths. Mix and match to fit different budgets too!

Breast Friend Nursing Pillow
This is an awesome nursing pillow that buckles around mom, and lets her be hands-free! The firm foam also provides the necessary support for the baby while breastfeeding. This one is great for a first-time mom who wants to breastfeed.
Health and Hygiene
Throw a little kit together including a baby thermometer, nail file and clippers, baby lotion, baby shampoo, nasal aspirator, hair brush, and other little hygiene items that are a pain to shop for! The mom-to-be will be so thankful to have these. FridaBaby also has a cute little hygiene kit in the $20-30 range.

Sleeptime Essentials!
It’s fun to gift all things sleep! From sleep sacks, swaddles, crib sheets, sound machines, and footie PJs there are so many night time essentials that you can find on the mom-to-be’s registry. My favorites are kyte sleep sacks and footie PJs, SwaddleMe swaddles, and Hatch sound machine!

Baby Carrier
Baby carriers are great for the parent on the go and they can be used for a longer period than other baby gear. They run in the $130-190 range. This is the exact one that we have, and we really like it!
Diapers and Wipes
This is a great gift for a smaller budget. Everyone needs diapers and wipes, and not every pregnant woman is thinking about the practical items when they’re ordering cribs and rugs and other bigger items for the nursery. Go for size 1 diapers, as most babies will start in newborn-sized diapers, but some will start at size 1. Size 2 will take up too much space for several months until the family can use them.
Gift Cards
You can’t go wrong with a Target or Amazon gift card- I learned this from wedding showers too, just bite the bullet and get something you know that they’ll use!
Things to Avoid
These items are entirely overbought! The mom-to-be will most likely have plenty of these! These are wonderful things that children do enjoy, but it can be a bit excessive as they are popular gifts.
